Car Hire Trapani Airport

Trapani Airport or Vincenzo Florio Airport as it is also known is located between the cities of Trapani and Marsala in the west of Sicily. The airport is named after a Sicilian wine industrialist and is the 3rd busiest airport in Sicily. With car hire at Trapani Airport, it is an easy drive via the SP21 and 15 km into the city and a 25 minute journey time.

Trapani Airport is mostly served by low cost airlines flying to Europe, but there are also domestic flights within Italy too. There is one terminal building which has two floors and basic facilities. On the ground floor, you will find the car hire rental desks and an ATM, if you need some extra cash. There is an information desk for all your enquiries about the airport and the local area. A bar is available too, if you need a quick snack or drink. On the first floor, there is a VIP lounge for business class passengers or those paying a fee. Here, you will also find a restaurant for when you get hungry and a shop for all your last minute essentials or souvenirs.

Trapani is a city on the northwest coast of Sicily, known for its fishing port and sea salt exportation. The old town is worth exploring first, to really get a feel for the city. See Trapani Cathedral which dates from 1635 and the pretty fountains of Fontana del Tritone. Corso Vittorio Emanuele is the city’s main street and has many fine buildings to admire. In the baroque Plaza della Guidecca, you can see gothic and Catalan influences. For a little culture, you can visit the Museo Regionale Popoli for art and exhibits and next door your will find the Basilica of Sanctuary of Maria Santissima Annunziata. The basilica was originally built in 1315 and was rebuilt in 1760. Inside it has a marble statue of the Madonna of Trapani. If you so wish, you can learn some Italian or take a cookery class at Scuola Virgilio. At the Museum of Prehistory and Sea, you will find archaeological artefacts taken from the seabed and the museum itself is a lighthouse in the old part of town. From the roof you can see views of the Gulf of Trapani and the city. With car hire in Trapani, you can drive to historic Monte Erice and the nearby Marausa Beach and Lido.
